Join Research Historian Casey Heilman, for an opportunity to sample some of the popular flavors of the past. For over ten years, Casey has been researching and experimenting with growing and pickling historic varieties of produce, offering participants the delightful opportunity to time-travel through taste. This tasting workshop will feature information on some of the varieties of produce grown during the 18th and 19th centuries, their origins, the reasons why they fell out of favor, and how they were preserved. In addition to sampling several of the pickled fruits and vegetables discussed during the presentation, attendees will take home heirloom seed packets, a list of period-appropriate produce, and several recipes to try on their own
