In October 1861 a broadside was distributed by Henry C. Blair, druggist of Philadelphia, with the endorsement of the Ladies Aid Society of Philadelphia by Major General George B. McClellen. The printed piece was in the shape of a slipper pattern with sewing and construction directions. These slippers were to be made up and “judiciously distributed to the various hospitals over the country”.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn the history, see different styles and variations of soft-soled slippers, and construct a pair either by hand or machine. Material kits will be provided; basic sewing skills are required and please plan on bringing along a sewing kit. Additional slipper kits will be available for purchase for $10.
